The makers of Viagra in the United States say the drug has saved them from patent expirations, but are reluctant to use its cheaper version for as long as possible.

Lilly is also planning to launch the generic version of Viagra soon. Lilly said the drug is in Phase III clinical trials, which have not been completed for more than three months.
The drug, developed in 1990, is said to have worked as well as Cialis, but the company said it had to pay out more than $300 million to settle lawsuits over the patent.
The maker of Viagra, which is marketed as a treatment for erectile dysfunction, says there's a "very small market" of sales for the drug and that they would be "not far off" from Lilly's sales.
